The Houston Stonewall Young Democrats is a group of Houston area young progressives, aged 14 to 40, whose focus is to educate the LGBT community about the issues affecting them, to mobilize the community to get out to vote on Election Day for fair-minded Democrats, and to fight for LGBT civil rights while leading the Democratic party to continue improving its record on issues important to our community.  HSYD is a chapter of the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus, an affiliate of the National Stonewall Democrats and a member of the Texas Young Democrats.

HSYD's First Officers

HSYD was formed in 2007 by Kristopher Banks, Victor Castillo, Meghan Baker and Conrad Camit, who served as the first officers of the organization.  These founders were instrumental in establishing the necessary components to build the organization such as drafting the initial bylaws and governing structure of HSYD.  Many of these founding members continue to contribute to HSYD and have gone on to successfully pursue other political goals and continue to work toward equality for all people.

In addition to working on behalf of candidates through grassroots efforts such as block-walking and literature drops, HSYD has expanded its campaign operations in recent years.  In 2010, HSYD was the only young Democratic organization to create and distribute 3 direct mail pieces across Harris County.  In addition, HSYD created original print advertisements for local media, delved into online advertising by creating original content commercials for endorsed candidates and LGBT-issues and created and executed a precinct-by-precinct field plan.
